This version of Snooper includes support for all new machines released by Apple
in February of 1993.
Compatibility Notes:
1) We have experienced some compatibility difficulties with all versions of Now Utilities for the Mac.
2) The 24 bit gray scale and 24 bit Color video test screens do not work correctly on a Mac II with systems earlier than 7.0.0
3) Some of the Audio tests do not work correctly on a Mac II with Systems earlier than System 7.0.0
4) There have been reports of printing problems when using Super Laser Spool.
Other Notes:
1) If you turn off the System 7 RAM Disk in order to make the RAM test in Snooper available, be sure to restart the machine before trying to test the RAM, otherwise, it may crash in the RAM test
2) The Printer and Modem Port tests should be done only with the Dock or MiniDock attached on a Duo 210 or 230.
3) If the Handshake test in the Modem Port test fails on a PowerBook, try turning off the internal modem (in the "Portable" control panel).
4) The Audio Input test is not available on some machines (most notably Classics and LCs) even though those machines support audio input. The reason is that some machines use a single chip for both audio output and input, and it can't "chew gum and walk at the same time". If the test is not available, it is either because the machine doesn't support audio input, or the above reason.
5) Bechmark results: Just another reminder here that the benchmark results will vary depending on a large number of factors. Some of these factors are: Using internal video or not, System Software version, CDEVs and INITs that may be slowing the machine down, accelerator products, etc. All of the comparison values for the benchmarks were derived using System 7.1.0, 256 colors or gray levels on internal video (if the machine has it), and the machine started with Extensions off.
IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE RUNNING SNOOPER:
Snooper 2.0.4 has been tested by both a software testing lab and many Beta testers. It is as close to perfect as we could make it. Alas, however, the Macintosh platform is a very diverse environment. If you experience a crash or other strange behavior, we suggest the following battle plan:
1) Panic (this is always an important first step)
2) Try running Snooper with Extensions turned off. This is a catchall method of disabling Control Panels and INITs that we never ran into in our product testing. To do this in System 7, just hold down the shift key while the machine is restarting. In System 6 you would need to drag all of the likely culprits out of the system folder temporarily (yuk!). If this does the trick, you can then experiment to find the culprit, and call tech support to inform them of the guilty party.
3) If this doesn't improve the situation, Panic again.
4) Call the toll free tech support line at (800)788-6292 and say HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Notes on the Emergency Disks:
The Emergency disk is intended to be used only in cases where the startup hard drive of a machine is failing to start up the machine. In order to make everything fit, it was necessary to remove the Finder ( the file that looks like the Finder is actually Snooper). For this reason, when you start up with this disk, you will automatically be in a scaled down version of Snooper (scaled down to make it fit). When you quit, the machine will be shut down ( because there is no real Finder on the disk).
***Note!!! System 7 Emergency Disk
This emergency disk does not support the very newest machines that require System 7.1 and a special Enabler to boot. (i.e. Quadra 800, Centris 650 and 610, PowerBook 165c and 180). We are dilligently working with Apple to find a way to make this work.
***Note!!! System 6 Emergency Disk
This emergency disk is intended for use on earlier machines that do not have a SuperDrive, and cannot therefore use the 1.4MB System 7 Emergency disk. It will work on all machines that do not require System 7 to boot.
